The Plugable USB3-E1000 is an easy way to gain wired gigabit network speeds for faster HD video streaming, gaming, web browsing, network storage and more.

Common uses include adding wired gigabit network support to Macbooks, UltraBooks, or notebooks with no Ethernet connection, or replacing or upgrading network adapters in desktop PCs. USB network adapters can improve speeds vs. older 10/100 adapters and wireless networks. Also useful for adding network interfaces, and transferring files peer-to-peer over Ethernet. So far so good with solid performance. I purchased this to replace the Anker USB 3.0 GigE adapter that completely died. The Plugable unit has a sturdy design and decent length cord. I was a little skeptical since at the time of purchase it had no reviews. It uses the same ASIX AX88179 chip that all the USB 3.0 GigE adapters use so there couldn t be much difference from brand to brand.

As you can see, this adapter has rock solid performance. I recommend you download the latest drivers from the manufacture website for best performance.

Used it for my MacBook Air which has a 2 USB 3.0 and 1 thunderbolt port. Followed the instructions simple enough and plugged the device, and it worked as expected.

A colleague of mine who has similar is also interested, only after I test if it does give 1Gbps - which i have to test :-. My gut instinct says it should.
