How to improve smithing after patch 1.5.

This is not a discussion of whether or not smithing is broken, this is just a request for information.

I do not powerlevel smithing, but make the trip back to Whiterun once every hour or so as I play at my own pace. As of 1.5, levelling smithing takes a fair bit longer, and I was wondering what sort of smithing increases it more.

Since it s now value based, would I be right in thinking that at an early level jewellery is the best product to make.

Kill a boy s mother then vengeance fester in the sonI find making dwarven items to be the best route. If you go to the dwarven ruins Nchuand-Zel in Markarth you can get 391 dwarven metal ingots after looting and smelting the necessary items. Combined with any Iron and Steel Ingots you buy/find they will get you from 30 to around 80-85 smithing. There is also Mzulft that has 472 dwarven metal ingot worth of resources but those ruins requite a College of Winterhold quest to gain access.

If you do choose to do this focus primarily on making dwarven armour. If your struggling for steel ingots then make dwarven bows. Once you reach 60 smithing start improving those items as well for additional experience.

All I have to do now is remember which of the peky things can be made into dwarven ingots.

EDIT: On looking at that page again I ve just realised that it s best to just make the bows and not the armour.

Did they do anything to the Unfathomable Depths smithing exp bonus. I haven t played since I.5 dropped.

It s still glitched in that it fortifies your smithing instead of giving you an experience bonus when smithing if that s what you mean.

The fortify smithing bonus does help you get more experience when improving weapons and armour though due to it increasing the value of the item.

I like going to Halted Stream camp, mining all the iron, lugging it to Whiterun using transmute then smithing it all into gold rings, you get two each time so it s financially viable too. Plus you can up alteration as well.Yes, jewelry. Go find the Transmute spellbook ASAP. I think it s in one of the caves they send you near Whiterun Redoran s Retreat, Halted Stream Camp, one of those. Then mine all the iron ore you can and start converting them to gold ore via the spell. Smelt the ore to gold ingots and make gold jewelry. Also buy all the Silver ore you find from blacksmiths or merchants, smelt them into silver ingots and make silver jewelry.

If you want to stick to armor making, helmets and shields are the best pound for pound items to make of any type, IMO.

Bethesda announced details on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim s next major patch today. Update 1.5, Skyrim Patch 1.5 Adds Kill Cameras, Fixes Smithing.

First, I d like to give credit to Scorption122178 for his great guide. His guide was an inspiration and many of my methods are adopted from his methods.

As of patch 1.5 changes, all these grind methods work.

Also, please use the guardian stones to gain the XP bonus for the skills you intend to grind. Well rested bonus also helps.

FORTIFY RESTORATION LOOP EXPLOIT WARING.

Also, please use the fortify restoration exploit only as I ve stated. This can and will irreparably mess your game up if done wrong. The warning is there and if used how I wrote you won t have any problems.

Alchemy, Smithing, Enchanting, and Speech

If you haven t grinded any of these skills, start with Enchanting as it will be needed to get Alchemy which is then needed to grind Smithing which will grind speech for you.

So, lets begin with Enchanting.

For this skill, we re going to need soul gems. A lot of soul gems. Fortunately, we have access to an infinite supply right at the beginning at Dawnstar. The Khajit trader Ahkari stops to sell her wares here. Fortunately, her mechant chest is also glitched and accessible from Dawnstar.

Now, we will use a trick to farm her soul gems. Wait until Ahkari is at Dawnstar. When she is, go to her chest and take all filled soul gems. Then, run back to Ahkari. Save the game and attack her. Reload your save. Her gold and inventory will reset. Go back to chest and take gems and repeat until necessary. From here, just enchant the crap out of everything.

Easy source of crap to enchant. Go pre patch 1.5 and smith iron daggers and enchant them.

Here we will use the fortify restoration loop. The loop requires a set of armor enchanting with fortify alchemy. Then you re going to make a potion of fortify restoration Abecean Longfish or Cyrodilic Spadetail Salt Pile. Once you have the potion, unequip your fortify alchemy gear, drink potion, equip gear and make another fortify restoration potion. Then, unequip gear, drink potion, equip gear, and make another.

Then when you have the desired strength, make a potion using one Wheat and one Giant s toe. Instant 100 on this skill.

By the way, save a few of these strong potions for future grinding. Like Smithing.

If you guys have noticed, patch 1.5 will no longer allow you to make iron daggers to quickly level this to 100. Who cares. My method is faster than pre-patch Iron Dagger assembly lines. You see, post 1.5 patch the value of the item created or upgraded will determine how fast your skill increases. Notice I bolded the word upgraded. Here comes the need for Alchemy.

Same concept as Alchemy. We re going to use one strong fortify restoration potion that I hope you saved when grinding Alchemy. Make a suit of fortify smithing armor and drink the fortify resoration potion. Equip your gear and upgrade a weapon or piece of armor.

If you notice it s value will be in the millions with obscenely ridiculous stats. Also, you should notice you went from whatever level in smithing to 100 in smithing in an instant. Keep this item, you re going to need it to grind speech.

Post 1.5 patch no longer allows you to enter a conversation loop with Ungrien in the Black-Briar meadery that has a persuade check. Again, who cares. My method is faster. Remember the piece of armor or weapon you saved to get smithing to 100. Sell it to a merchant. Easiest 100 ever.

1983 - 1987 - 1989 - 1991 - 2001I don t know if this will help, but I noticed another speech exploit.The only prerequisite that you must meet in order to use this exploit is completion of the Thieves Guild questline. You need to be guild master in order to receive the Amulet of Articulation. It gives 15 speechcraft, and it makes it so that persuade checks are almost always successful.

So, what you do is this: Equip the amulet of articulation and go into any town. Acquire a small bounty I just punch a guard in the face. When the guard approaches you with his by order of the jarl bit, just respond with Any chance I can get you to overlook this.

I think it s a new option that you get just for wearing the amulet. Anyway, the guard should say, All right, but you just watch yourself. Next time I might not be so lenient.

This doesn t clear your bounty, this just gets you off the hook without paying anything, and it boosts your speechcraft cause it s a persuade option.

So you just spam this a whole bunch of times. I m guessing you could do this and use the Masque of Clavicus Vile which is the only other fortify persuasion artifact other than Amulet of Dibella for a better effect keep in mind that fortify barter doesn t work on speech checks, so you can t use alchemy.

The only problem with this method is that it has potential to be time consuming. The speech option will only show up the first time per guard, so you ll have to run around town talking to different guards in order to get this option.

If you talk to a guard that you already spoke to before, the option won t be there, and if you don t take the opportunity to pay off your bounty after the first interaction with the guard, the guard will no longer do the waitI know you thing, so once you ve done the dialogue loop with every guard in town, you ll have to commit another crime in order to start all over again.

I haven t tried this with higher level bounties, so I m not sure if it will work if everyone in the town wants to rip your head off and place it on a stake.

Not trying to knock all your hard workit s a pretty good guidebut there are faster ways to level a lot of the skills.

The other dood s guide is terrible however. Powerleveling how he wants you to you ll have beaten the entire game before you hit 81 lol.

If you don t mind, if you know of better ways please post. I know I don t have the best or most effective I m sure but I hope that this topic can be built upon contributions of many. Mace22 has already begun aiding with his inputs.

a faster way to level up almost everything is to buy every magic/health potion you can carry or get 0 magic cost reduction for the skill/s you want to level. go find the guard that spawns by cicero or any immortal solatary enemy in the wild.maiq works aswell but goes down too quik. if you want a child works the best because they never kneel. attack them with the skills you want to level.

yeah i started an unarmed toon the day after the patch and the riften speech glitch was the 2nd thing i did. 1st thing was escape helgen

Now, I ve tried with the Enchanting, but for some reason, even though I can get super powerful effects the value of the enchanted item stays really low. I was hoping it would work the same way as the other skills, am I doing something wrong. How do you get to super-expensive enchantments and shoot up to 100 skill.

You could try making a fortify enchantment potion when under the influence of the Fortify Restoration Potion. It s the same as you would have done with the smithing potion.

My potion under the fortify rest. effect was like 29 million times stronger enchantment, or something made the enchanted dagger with a really powerful effect on it but was only worth about 380 gold. Wth. With fortify alchemy, the value of the potion scales with the potions effects but not for enchanting. Seems weird.

i think he means it will make it extremely easyer than it already is or that raising some skills too high will actially leave them with a negative value. SNEAK AT 20000 SNEAK AT -200 you will be detected every time
